    1.  Pay Close Attention.

Watch what you’re putting in your mouth when you eat at your desk. And don’t go overboard by eating too much because you’re too fixated on email or your blackberry. Also keep in mind that you want to eat a lunch that’s medium in size and satisfies your hunger rather than fills you up.

    2.  The Good ol’ Brown Bag.

Lunchtime is always a good opportunity to eat healthy. Plus, bringing your own lunch can be a simple and creative process. For example you can bring a salad with grilled chicken, nuts, beans and tons veggies which will all allow you to get some quality nutrients like fiber and protein in your body.

Avoid eating your lunches at restaurants and fast food joints. They’re often expensive, over sized, loaded with fat and calories, and lack the “real” nutrients you need. A great tip to keep in mind is to use an insulated lunch bag with a freezer pack to keep your food cold until you can put in the refrigerator at work.

    3.  Walking Break.

As a human you’re genetically built to move. So of course spending every minute indoors or stuck at your desk is not a good thing! If you end up eating at your desk try to take a few minutes to move around. Whether it be walking to the water cooler or going to the washroom, do something to keep your muscles stimulated and blood flowing. If you really want to see results dedicate 30 minutes to an hour to get a focused workout in.

    4.  Sanitize Your Desk.

If you’re just wiping your desk with paper towel, your not doing any justice to your health. The only thing paper towels do is spread the germs faster. Invest in some disinfecting wipes and clean everything that you constantly touch (phone, mouse, keyboard etc.) Wiping down these areas once a day is enough to send those germs back where they came from. If not, then you’ll just be contaminating your food over and over again – nobody wants that.

    5.  Use a Food Place mat.

To give yourself some extra protection after your “wipe-down” you can simply have a food place mat to separate your food and the nasty bacteria.

    6.  Eat With a Buddy.

Don’t have any other choice but to eat at your desk? Invite a co-worker/friend to eat with you. From a creative and productive standpoint it’s important that you get a break to socialize with your colleagues.

    7.  Don’t Make It a Tradition.

Whatever you do don’t make eating at your desk a habit. Sometimes you might not even realize it because you have a ton of work to do but it’s always important to take some time for yourself. You should be able to talk to your friends, relax, read a book or just enjoy the fresh air.
