A Salty Situation

satlSalt can be found in almost any food.  Even in places you least expect it – like bottled water.  And these days it’s pretty hard to find foods that don’t contain a high dose of salt – which is a serious and potentially deadly problem.

Eating salty foods increases your risk of high blood pressure (hypertension) and also increases your risk of a heart attack and stroke.

As a healthy adult you want to stay in the ranges of 1,500 and 2,400 milligrams (mg) a day.  But also keep in mind that the lower your salt intake – the better you’ll be.

So how do you reduce the amount of salt you eat when you don’t even know it’s there?

Here’s a table outlining the amount of salt in some everyday day foods.
