  • How To Choose The Right Goals To Focus On

Posted in Self Help, Self Improvement on September 11th, 2009 by Marci Lall | View Comments

You might think setting health and fitness goals is a simple task. Well.. it is. But choosing the right goals to start off with can be a tough decision. You have the power to choose any goal that you feel is necessary for your health, fitness and happiness.

And don’t try to make goal setting too complicated. It’s nothing more than a formal process for personal planning. By setting goals on a regular basis you decide what you want to achieve, and then take the appropriate steps to achieving those goals.

The process of setting health and fitness goals or targets allows you to choose what you want your body to look like and how you’d like your lifestyle to be.  By knowing exactly what you want to achieve, you know what you have to concentrate on and you’ll know what activities are just distractions that will prevent you from reaching your goals.

But why do you need to set or have goals anyways?

Goal setting is a standard technique used by professional athletes, successful business people and high achievers. It gives you a long term vision and provides you with short term motivation.

It helps you focus your attention and knowledge which helps you organize your resources. By setting sharp and clearly defined goals, you can measure and take pride in achieving those goals. You’ll also be able to see progress in things you thought were pointless.

By setting goals, you’ll also raise your self confidence, as you recognize your ability to meet the goals that you set for yourself. The process of achieving goals and seeing this achievement gives you confidence that you’ll be able to achieve higher and more difficult ones later on.

You can set your goals on a number of different levels.

    1. Decide what you want to do with your body or lifestyle and what large scale goals you want to achieve.

    2. Break these down into the smaller targets that you must hit so that you reach your overall lifetime goals.

    3. Once you have your plan, start working towards achieving it.
