  • Can Soup Be The Cause of Your Weight Gain?

Posted in Women's Nutrition on December 7th, 2009 by Marci Lall | View Comments

There are a number of meals that are perfect for losing weight. Maybe you’ve heard of the soup and salad diet. For sure such a light meal would be perfect for weight loss…right? Well, it may very well be but there are those that will say soup can pack on extra weight. Now, you may consider this a skeptical statement. How can something such as soup pack on weight?

    soupshealth

Soup, per se, does not pack on excess fat. Eating too many calories does. Soup has calories in it, just like any other food. It’s the amount of calories you consume in the soup that will determine whether or not you will gain weight.

So, what are you to do when the cold weather is coming up and a nice bowl of soup sounds like a good choice? Generally, you ‘ll want to stick with light broth soups. Heavy cream soups are probably the most notorious for this.

New England Clam Chowder, for example, contains heavy cream and milk, which are loaded with fat and calories. The soups also contain potatoes which are high calorie carbs. Cream of Broccoli Soup is mixed with cream, milk, and cheese, which turn it into a high calorie affair. These soups are loaded with sodium and boosts water retention, which is another annoying cause of weight gain. If you’re worried about excess weight gain you would most definitely want to stay away from these types of soups.

Instead, stick with light and healthy soups along the lines of chicken soup, vegetable soup, or even Manhattan Clam Chowder. Generally, you will want light broths, low calories, and a lot of natural, non-processed ingredients. They will certainly help you a great deal in your healthy soup eating plans for the winter.

If you’re really stuck and have no clue which foods are good and which foods are bad I highly recommend you check out the Rules of Eating Guide which is a bonus that comes with the The Rebound Workout system. Check it out by clicking here!
