  • Exercise In a Pill?! You gotta be kidding me!

    I stumbled upon an article in the LA times that caught my eye.  The title was “Rejoice, couch potatoes! It’s exercise in a pill”.

    The article went on explain how a scientist were able to put together a drug that changes the physical composition of muscle.

    The researchers also indicated that the drug does have the ability to help people lose weight, ward off diabetes and prevent heat disease (You skeptical yet?).

    It’s also important to know that the research has only been done on mice and not on humans…yet.

    Of course I think this will cause a whole heap of controversy, after all once I discovered the news, I quickly hopped onto my blog to share my opinion with you.

    Anywho, the article continues to say that with some more research the drug might be able to help people who are obese, and allowing people who can’t exercise to get the benefits.

    This is where I have mixed feelings.  I understand this pill might be able to help people in the future.  But it gives the wrong impression on how to act on a permanent solution for obesity.

    Think about it, obese people can now say “Yay!  I can still eat all I want, be a lazy ass and just take this pill to get the benefits of exercise”

    It doesn’t get people active and exercising on a regular basis.  It doesn’t get them eating less nor getting them to eat healthy.   If only the obese people took some level of responsibility and made lifestyle changes we wouldn’t even need a stupid pill to exercise!

    Nothing will ever beat the traditional way to exercise and nothing will ever come close to the hundreds of benefits you obtain when physically exercising.

    It’s all about putting in the work and effort to get the results your looking for, and I don’t care what anyone says, no pill can replace the countless, enjoyable hours I’ve put in to become healthy and fit.

    So are you with me or with the pill?

      I agree with you Marci. Nothing compares to good old fashioned exercise. What I have learned about the drug companies is that you take a pill for one condition and it has side effects that create another condition. Before you know it you have to take another pill to combat the new condition and it goes on and on and on. My opinion is that the best way to get fit is through good old fashioned exercise and nutriton. Takes a bit of self responsibility but I think I’m worth it. Besides exercise is fun, safe and natural.
