  • Why You Should Avoid Weight Loss Pills

Posted in Health & Wellness, Women's Nutrition on January 4th, 2010 by Marci Lall | View Comments

While there are more than a few weight loss pills on the market, anyone serious about losing weight would be best served staying away from them. Why is this?

    There are scores of reasons…

Weight loss pills dull your appetite which means you eat less. While this will lead to rapid weight loss at first, your metabolism will slow down to literally a crawl. This means you could end up gaining weight while eating less (body goes into starvation mode) since your body will not efficiently burn calories.

Weight loss pills don’t promote any change in dietary habits or lifestyle choices. This means that the only reason you slow down your eating habits is because of the impact of the pills on your system. Once you stop using the pills or build a tolerance to them, you’ll quickly discover that a ravenous appetite returns and you will start binge eating. This will lead to the yo-yo diet effect where you’ll pack on a lot of pounds. This undermines the whole point of using the pills in the first place and actually leaves you in a worse situation than you were prior to taking them.

It’s not uncommon for weight loss pills to contain a variety of stimulants. Stimulants can often lead to excess anxiety, nervousness, and insomnia which are certainly symptoms best avoided.

And the cost of some of these pills can be significant despite the fact that they have more problems than benefits. Some brands costs upwards of $90.00 a bottle and deliver diminished returns more than anything else.

Your best bet for getting in shape involves eating healthy meals and getting a regular dose of daily exercise. This will burn up calories and improve your health in a manner weight loss pills never could. That’s why avoiding the pills and choosing a better alternative is the wiser option.
