  • How To Get Fat From Eating Salads

Posted in Health & Wellness, Women's Nutrition on June 16th, 2008 by Marci Lall | View Comments

Have you ever wondered why sometimes you see people eating like rabbits for months trying to lose weight, but have no weight loss results to show for it?  I’ve always wondered why many of my clients assume they “eat well” and tell me that they eat salads every day for lunch and dinner but end up losing zilch on the waist-line.

Everyone has there own definition on what a salad consists of.  Today I decided to educate you and make you aware of what NOT to put into your salads.

    1.  Use Ice Berg Lettuce

This type of lettuce may give you a crunchy sensation but don’t let that fool you.  If you choose to waste your time making/eating a salad with Ice Berg lettuce then I highly suggest you rethink how you’re going to achieve your goals.  It doesn’t supply you with an adequate amount of nutrients and you sure aren’t helping your body in any way, shape or form.

    2. Sprinkle On Some Bacon Bits

Just a tablespoon of bacon bits will give you 33 calories and 124 mg of sodium.  And for the record you and I both know that there’s no way you’re just going to use one table spoon.  If you want to send your blood pressure through the roof then by all means,  top your salad off with some bacon bits.

    3.  Drench Your Salad

What’s a salad without dressing? Can you even call it a salad? Unfortunately many people are accustomed to this mentality.  They’re the ones that smother their salads in dressing, all the while still thinking that because they’re eating a “salad” it must be healthy for them.  This can’t be more farther from the truth.  Letting your greens drown in a sea of dressing will do you no good in your weight loss efforts.

    4.  Add The Fried Stuff

Adding fried foods to your salad is a big no-no!  Again, it’s counter productive and eating it will only waste your time.  Actually having fried foods period is a waste of time.  Because their fried, they hold a ton of fat that you definitely want to stay away from.

    5. Go Toppings Crazy

Toss on some croutons, some extra shredded cheese, maybe some olives, heck just throw in the kitchen sink!  If you like to go all out when you eat salads and throw in whatever you can find in the fridge, know that it all adds up.  You can easily go from having a 300 calorie meal to a 700 calorie meal just by adding a bunch of unnecessary toppings.
