  • How Gwyneth Paltrow Got Her Body Back

Posted in Women's Fitness on February 12th, 2009 by Marci Lall | View Comments

gwyneth-paltrow21So of course you probably know of Gwyneth Paltrow, one of the most famous names – and bodies – in Hollywood.  She’s found a way to get her body back after having her second child in her thirties.  The question is…What has this Oscar award-winning actress done that the you can do too?  Gwyneth has struggled with finding ways to get the baby fat off, just like any other 30-something moms, and she says it’s no secret how she’s done it.

Paired with her trainer, Tracy Anderson, Gwyneth has literally worked her butt off (no seriously she has!).  Using a combination of cardio dance and resistance training incorporating highly advanced Pilates with bands, nothing is routine in her workouts (don’t I tell you to combine your cardio and resistance training?).

Gwyneth Paltrow started working out with Anderson after the birth of her second child.  After a short session of post-partum depression, Paltrow got back into the workout routine, but wasn’t seeing the results she wanted.  Working with her trainer, she has added an extremely intense workout routine to her daily schedule to keep her body looking great.

What do you have to do to get a body like Paltrow? Well I think she leaves all the bull**** and excuses on the table and sums it up pretty good with this quote  “ I work freakin’ hard”.  She commits two hours a day, six days a week to working out, which is a little long for most busy women.  Her exercise routines include lifting, squatting and a lot of sweating for these two intense hours.  Her warm-up includes the band system used to warm up the arms.  She uses the bands to work her muscles deeper and with a big range of motion.

The workout routine changes every 10-12 days as well (about 2 weeks), so that the body doesn’t have time to get to used to one type of exercise (good example of variety) and she doesn’t perform sets of exercises like other traditional workouts.

One of the main differences that Anderson uses when working out is keeping the heat in the room set at 80 degrees.  Anderson believes that when you sweat, you are burning calories to maintain homeostasis in conjunction with the workout calories. If you are working out Gwyneth’s way, be ready to sweat, and sweat some more.

Anderson also doesn’t use more than three-pound weights and says “No woman should lift more than 3 pounds.”  Sorry…I disagree, every woman’s body is different and will get results from whatever works for that specific person.  My clients consistently curl 10 or 12 pounds weights to get long, lean and strong arms.  Best way to see if this works for you is to experiment with different weights.

Even when she can’t see her trainer Paltrow doesn’t get to take a day off from working out.  She uses Tracy’s exercise DVD’s to work out in her hotel room to still keep her body constantly burning calories.

So you’re probably thinking, with such an intense workout, what the heck does she eat?  Gwyneth Paltrow has decided that she would rather do the serious cardio instead of watching her calorie intake.  She doesn’t eat red meat, but does include cheese, deserts, and chicken/fish – she can cause she works out so damn hard.  She tries to cook with as many fresh foods as possible, but doesn’t count calories.  In fact, she uses mealtime as family time.

Are you ready to take on a calorie burning adventure?  Maybe you don’t need two hours a day for six days a week, but even engaging in some sort of exercise 3 hours a week will tone your body and burn the fat.  And if you include the high intensity, sweat-producing workouts you’ll definitely see some sexy changes in your body.  You don’t have to be on the big screen, but I know that you can get a little inspiration from this mom in her thirties who manages to work and still make her health a priority.   Let’s get the burning going!

Personally, I think Tracey Anderson is a nut having read about her workouts for Gwyneth Paltrow and Madonna. 100 reps with 3 lb weights, working only the small muscles and not the bigger ones – it seems silly and time-wasting to me. I never thought Paltrow looked particularly "fit" either. Why bother doing all the crazy insane things that they do when you could do circuit training and high intensity intervals with excellent results in less time?

LOL – thanks for the honest input Glynis. I agree with you on the "100 reps 3 lb weights" thing, I know because of that a lot of women are going to be like "I don't want to use more than 3 lbs". But I guess from Gwyneth's perspective she has the time, money etc. Where as other women have to become more efficient with there workouts because they might lack time, money etc.

Just wondering – have you happened to read up on this Tracy Anderson? Apparently she's a big time scam artist in a heckuva lot of trouble. I think Madonna & Gwyneth should call you instead! :)

LMAO!! – ohh boy…I think i gotta read up on that! See what the real Tracy Anderson is all about…Good call Glynis! And yeah they'd for sure be better off with me :P
